# mova-elephant-ask

The groupant beside tools/elephant/src/ask.rs in the Mova repository: what the code computes, what it never does, how to go back from its outputs, its invariants, cost and checks.

## Facts

- **kind:** groupant
- **status:** partial source bound model
- **source:** [`tools/elephant/src/ask.rs`](https://github.com/ElamurAI/mova-free/blob/main/tools/elephant/src/ask.rs)
- **repository folder:** [`tools/elephant/src/ask.rs.groupant`](https://github.com/ElamurAI/mova-free/tree/main/tools/elephant/src/ask.rs.groupant)

> **Implementation material.** A Mova code model describes this code at one source revision: partial models, finite checks and their stated scope. It is not a reviewed general exposition, and its labels are shown as written, never raised.

## Components

| component | label | where |
|---|---|---|
| **Approximant** | partial | [Forward approximant](#forward-approximant) |
| **Ast** | partial | `syntax.json` |
| **Composition** | partial | [Composition](#composition) |
| **Cost** | partial | [Cost](#cost) |
| **Descriptant** | present | [Descriptant](#descriptant) |
| **Invariant** | partial | [Invariant](#invariant) |
| **Tests** | finite evidence | [Tests](#tests) |

## Obernants

The typed relations around the forward model: the behaviour complement (what the code never does), the reverse reconstruction (every input compatible with an output) and specialised views.

| relation | type | label | where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Behavior complement | behavior complement | partial source derived model | [Behavior complement](#behavior-complement) |
| Reverse reconstruction | reverse reconstruction | partial source derived model | [Reverse reconstruction](#reverse-reconstruction) |

## Model text

### Descriptant

The Elephant's reader of questions about words over Mova's own parse: a fixed table of frames (does, objects, subjects, isa, is-a, plausible), each one graph query, with answers realized from the results. Source: `tools/elephant/src/ask.rs`.

### Forward approximant

quoted span (one of «», “”, double or word-boundary single quotes) replaced by it -> Tree::parse_cased -> negation or several sentences -> NotMine; frames by the root and its nsubj/obj/cop children; plausible: the quoted sentence parsed, its subject, object (a second subject after the verb read as the object) and copular roles scored with plausibility_isa, the roles swapped; answer sentences from the results.

### Invariant

Reads only; deterministic (same prompt, same graph, same answer); a question it does not read goes to the deputy; absence of an edge is reported as no evidence, never as false.

### Cost

One parse (milliseconds) and O(k) graph reads per question; 107-159 ms per question through serve on the 50 000-article view (2026-11-06).

### Composition

Parent: elephant. Called by animal::answer before the deputy.

### Behavior complement

Never acts, never writes, never calls a model; refuses negation, statements, several sentences and unlisted frames by passing them on. Evidence status: source-derived model with finite checks, not a proof.

### Reverse reconstruction

The frame and the result JSON recover the query asked of the graph.

### Tests

#### Checks

ask::tests (quotations); English tests: 14 questions on a synthetic graph with their frames and answers, 5 prompts not taken, two runs equal; red control: the negation check removed turns them red.
These are finite fixtures and measurements; not a proof.
