## Model text


### Descriptant

What the Beaver knows of the library and the site, read from existing indexes: works.tsv, authors.tsv, citations.tsv, slugs.tsv and release.tsv, and the h1 of author, topic and concept pages; phrase indexes by first word; the paper page's reference list; the e-print lookup. Source: `tools/beaver/src/library.rs`.

### Forward approximant

load: works -> by_arxiv/by_doi; release+slugs+page file -> page/by_url; first authors -> (surname, year) -> folders; titles of page works (full and short) -> titles; unique mixed-case one-word names -> names; author/topic/concept h1 -> authors/cats with variants.

### Invariant

Only works with a published page source are internal targets; a variant of a topic or concept is the whole name, a multi-word part or a plural/singular of a multi-word name, or a distinctive single word; UD/UPOS spelled-out names are marked ud.

### Cost

About one second on the 2026-11-07 library (63k works, 15k author pages, one pass over 2.7M citation rows for the selected papers).

### Composition

Read by find.rs and run.rs; mirrors the site's deepdive::Lib::load for page discovery.

### Behavior complement

Not done: no network, no writes, no index of its own on disk, no alias table for authors or topics. Evidence status: source-derived model with finite checks.

### Reverse reconstruction

From a phrase entry the folder or page and the phrase words are recoverable; the page's full text is not.

### tests.md


cargo test --release --offline --manifest-path tools/beaver/Cargo.toml (2026-11-07): 9 unit tests and 4 end-to-end tests on a fake site tree. Negative control 2026-11-07: switching off heading masking turned the masking test red; restored. Pilot 2026-11-07 on five real deep dives: 13 inserts, 5 Sol calls, all pages re-attached.
