# beaver

The groupant beside models/beaver.groupant in the Mova repository: what the code computes, what it never does, how to go back from its outputs, its invariants, cost and checks.

## Facts

- **kind:** groupant group
- **status:** partial source composition
- **bound sources:** 9
- **repository folder:** [`models/beaver.groupant`](https://github.com/ElamurAI/mova-free/tree/main/models/beaver.groupant)

> **Implementation material.** A Mova code model describes this code at one source revision: partial models, finite checks and their stated scope. It is not a reviewed general exposition, and its labels are shown as written, never raised.

## Components

| component | label | where |
|---|---|---|
| **Approximant** | partial source derived | [Forward](#forward) |
| **Ast** | not materialized | |
| **Composition** | partial source derived | [Composition](#composition) |
| **Cost** | partial source derived | [Cost](#cost) |
| **Descriptant** | partial source derived | [Descriptant](#descriptant) |
| **Invariant** | partial source derived | [Invariant](#invariant) |
| **Tests** | finite evidence | [Tests](#tests) |

## Obernants

The typed relations around the forward model: the behaviour complement (what the code never does), the reverse reconstruction (every input compatible with an output) and specialised views.

| relation | type | label | where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Behavior complement | behavior complement | partial source derived finite checks | [Behavior complement](#behavior-complement) |
| Reverse reconstruction | reverse reconstruction | partial source derived finite checks | [Reverse reconstruction](#reverse-reconstruction) |

## Model text

### Model

The 🦫 Beaver as a composition: library indexes and the deep-dive text in, candidate links with decisions out, safe inserts and Sol «yes» written back with backups, the rest as recommendations for Sol-help.

### Descriptant

Beaver (`mova-beaver`, `tools/beaver`): finds the internal and external links the research site's deep dives lack. It inserts the safe ones itself (exact, unambiguous, body prose, first mention, capped per section), with a backup and a re-attach. It asks Sol one batched yes/no question per article about the rest. What stays uncertain goes into Sol-help's recommendations for the paper's next epoch.

### Forward

accepted Sol texts (Sol-help journals) -> due by source SHA-256 -> `library::Library::load` -> per article `find::find` (mask, mentions, resolution, Auto/Ask) -> cached or fresh Sol verdicts (`sol`) -> `find::cap` -> `text::insert_links` -> backup, write, ledger, `site deepdive attach --one-text` (refused: restore) -> `inserts.tsv`, `links_dir/<paper>.md`.

### Invariant

Every inserted span is free prose; no overlaps; each target at most once per article and never when already linked; internal targets have a page source; an inserted link is safe or a Sol «yes»; caps per section and per article hold; a write happens only over the text the pass read; a refused attach leaves the source and the ledger as before.

### Cost

About 1 s to load the indexes; linear per article; one Sol call per article at most and `max_sol_calls_per_pass` per pass; a verdict on the same text, span and target is never asked again.

### Composition

lib declares config, text, library, find, sol, run; main calls run; run composes library and find with sol and text and writes the run state; tests exercise library, find, run and sol through the public API. Outside: Sol-help (`tools/whale/src/solhelp_dd.rs`) reads `links_dir` (prompt extras and the ledger in `same_source`); the Research site's `deepdive attach` renders the page.

### Behavior complement

Not done: no link in headings, code, math, tables, HTML or existing links; no second link to a target; no link to a missing page; no insert of an unsure item; no write over a text changed during the pass; no deletion; no site build; no Claude route; no meaning judgement of its own. Evidence status: source-derived model with finite checks.

### Reverse reconstruction

From `backups/<paper>/<unix>-<sha>.md`, `inserts.tsv`, `verdicts.tsv` and `links_dir/derived.tsv`: every earlier source, every insert with its reason, every Sol verdict and the base of every linked source.

### Tests

`cargo test --release --offline --manifest-path tools/beaver/Cargo.toml` (2026-11-07): 9 unit tests and 4 end-to-end tests. Negative control: heading masking switched off turns the masking test red. Pilot 2026-11-07: five deep dives, 13 inserts, 5 Sol calls, all pages re-attached; two read-only scans of 114 deep dives byte-identical.
